  2. You're correct about the collar, CW. You can buy rubber ones, plus, I've wrapped handles with insulated 12 gauge copper wire, too. You rarely need it for chopping, but splitting can be a different matter.

  3. For proper protection, handle need to cover 8" or 20cm with leather , rubber or metal sheet ( steel).
