A mountain lion snatched a small dog from a Pescadero bedroom in the early morning hours Monday, after the residents reportedly left their French doors partially open for the dog to go outside, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's office.

Charlie the Cougar was lonesome.  And hungry.  For fresh meat, alive and wriggling.

An adult and a child were sleeping in the bed, and the dog, a 15 pound Portuguese Podengo, woke them up barking wildly.  Then, they saw a shadowing thing come in from outside, grab the dog and leave. 

When the police arrived, they saw the paw prints of a mountain lion.  Authorities are now advising residents to lock their doors and windows and be aware.   CW advises residents to move.

A pal of mine once moved out of Sacramento and into the foothills, but still in on of those neighborhoods with houses everywhere on two acres or so.  He had two wiener dogs.  One night he let them out to do their business, and they wienered off into the night.  There then was frantic wiener dog barking, and only one came back.  Yep, Fish and Game found the first dog later just off his property, dead, covered up with brush and mostly eaten.  It was a lion.
